Landscape Elements LLC designed and managed a trail and signage project for the South Kingstown Land Trust. Browning Woods Trail is located near the Charlestown- South Kingstown town line and is the location of the Browning familyÕs historic farmstead. The ruins of the farmhouse, cellar hole, chimney, stone walls and animal pens are still extant. The site also includes interesting natural features including pinewoods, wetlands, rock outcrops and the ruins of another historic 18th century farmstead. The trail is a twp-mile loop bringing visitors from the roadside trailhead through these many culturally historic and natural features.
Trail signage was developed in conjunction with illustrator Laura Holt of Little Holt Enterprises of Hope Valley, Rhode Island. The interpretive signage for the site focuses on educating the visitor to the importance of the site's wetlands, pine woodlands and historic farms, providing insight into the natural history, wildlife and ecology of the area.
Landscape Elements LLC served as project coordinator and designer for trail layout and sign framing and mounting. They also worked closely with the sign illustrator and volunteers from the South Kingstown Land Trust in the selection and clearing of the trail route. This project carefully integrated the new trail and sign elements into the landscape so that natural features and resources were minimally impacted.
