A two-acre site along one of Rhode Island's coastal ponds is the location for this retirement home. The property abuts a coastal pond and farmland acreage. The master provides a series of outdoor spaces that maintain the open coastal landscape meeting the client's desire to maintain views to the farm acreage and enhancing views to the coastal pond.
The design process evaluated landscape assets and challenges, identified views that needed to be enhanced, and created exterior spaces that worked with the client's lifestyle. Native plants such as inkberry, shad, and bayberry were used throughout the design scheme to compliment the selection of perennials and other seashore plantings. Seasonal color and textural variation provide interest year-round. The master plan was inspired by seacoast "farmscapes" but is updated to meet current active uses.
