Landscape Elements LLC worked in collaboration with Elmore Design Collaborative, Inc. (EDC) of Springfield, MA in the preparation of a planting master plan for Wilcox Park. This master plan focused on preserving the cultural and historic character of the park, enhancing the important landscape features and updating the plantings and maintaining the character of Warren Manning's original design.
This master plan included a detailed site assessment to identify the opportunities and limitations of all the vegetation, schematic designs showing multiple design alternatives, design development drawings, construction documentation, planting specifications and details, and a cost estimate. The focus of the work was on maintaining and restoring Warren Manning's original design ideals and improving the Park's arboretum specimens. Multiple schematic design alternatives were prepared to treat and improve the Formal Garden or Esplanade area and a walk and entry adjacent to the nearby Post Office. All of the work followed the guidelines established by The Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Treatments of Historic Properties prepared by the National Park Service, 1996. Park staff and volunteers will implement most of the recommendations with private contractors performing the heavier work.
