Scenic Landscape Inventory Hopkinton Conservation Commission Project Scope: A visual quality inventory for the evaluation of scenic areas

Landscape Elements LLC provided the Hopkinton Conservation Commission with consulting services for the planning and implementation of a town-wide scenic inventory. The intended uses of the scenic inventory were several: to provide one of several scoring criteria of the Hopkinton Land Trust's Open Space Funding Policy, to provide a component for a Town-wide Map of Potential Conservation Lands as part of the Hopkinton Comprehensive Plan revision; to provide information in the preparation of grants and to identify potential scenic road designations which will assist the Town of Hopkinton in planning future road improvements.
The firm worked closely with members of the Hopkinton Conservation Commission and the town's GIS specialist in developing the most appropriate scale and graphic format for mapping and denoting areas of the highest scenic value in the Town. The firm then developed a methodology and criteria for the evaluation process and designed a field evaluation form that was used by conservation commission members in the course of their field survey work. The Hopkinton Conservation Commission members have effectively utilized the materials and the methodology to evaluate the roads and navigable rivers in the town as part of their comprehensive plan. » Back to Case Studies |
